FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is online therapy?Through a HIPAA compliant video/audio platform, you are able to come to sessions remotely from wherever is most convenient for you. Some choose to schedule sessions from their homes, offices, during commutes in the car, or even while waiting in the school pick-up line. As long as you have access to a good Internet connection from your phone, tablet, iPad, or computer, we can meet virtually. This can be really helpful for people with busy schedules who can’t spare the commuting time, have difficulty finding childcare, dealing with inclement weather, or don’t live within driving distance. It is discreet, easy to use, and often makes quality therapy more accessible for those in rural areas or those who feel more comfortable in their own spaces.

What can I expect from my first appointment?I offer a free 15-minute consultation that can be completed over the phone or video call. This helps us to determine if we are a good fit to work together and allows time for me to answer any questions you have. Finding a therapist who is a good match is essential to the therapeutic process. We will spend time during the first session getting a sense of each other. You are welcome to ask any questions you may have and/or share any concerns about starting therapy. In order to spend our time most efficiently, you will not spend any time in session completing paperwork. Prior to our first appointment, I will send you a link to my confidential patient portal where you will find a few brief documents about my practice, confidentiality in therapy, and forms where you can provide some information about yourself. If you are seeking therapy for your child or adolescent, the first session will usually include time for me to talk with parents and the child or adolescent individually.

Do you accept insurance?I am not on any insurance panels and would be considered an out of network provider. If you wish to submit for reimbursement to your insurance provider, I can generate a superbill. Here are a few questions you may want to ask your insurance provider: What is my behavioral/mental health out of network deductible? How much of my deductible have I met? How much is the reimbursement for session with a psychologist who is out of network?

What are your fees?My fee for the initial intake appointment is $180 and follow-up appointments are $155. Should you require additional time during the session, a prorated fee of $37.50 is assessed per 15-minute interval. Fee updates are subject to change with 30 day notice. On occasion, I do use a sliding scale for fee adjustments for families in need. I am also happy to provide referrals if I do not have availability to accommodate you.

What is your cancellation policy? If you are unable to attend, you will be expected to cancel at least 24 hours in advance. If it is possible, we will try to find another time to reschedule the appointment. Please note that the full service fee will be charged if the appointment is canceled or rescheduled less with less than 24 hours notice. Emergencies of all types happen so there are exceptions to this policy.
